Bial and Greenvolt are driving forward green energy production that could reduce costs by up to 30%
Bial, an innovative biopharmaceutical company, announces the signing of a partnership agreement enabling the company and its employees to join Greenvolt’s Energy Communities, in an agreement that promotes access to green energy at the pharmaceutical company’s facilities, and which is also extended to the homes of its employees located within Greenvolt communities.
The partnership with Greenvolt enables Bial to increase its use of shared renewable energy through a community-based model, whilst also expanding employees’ access to green energy in their homes
Any surplus green energy produced by Bial will be consumed by members of the community
The partnership could generate an average reduction of up to 30% on each employee’s energy bill
This partnership, established as part of the creation of the Energy Community promoted by Greenvolt Comunidades, offers the pharmaceutical company and its employees benefits in terms of both sustainability and cost savings. Key benefits include access to clean, local energy at a competitive price, without the need to install their own equipment, enabling a potential reduction in energy bills of around 30%, as well as a positive environmental impact for everyone through reduced carbon emissions.
The surplus green energy produced by Bial through its photovoltaic panels will be consumed by members of the community where the company is based. At the same time, Bial will also be able to consume the surplus green energy shared locally by other producer members of other Greenvolt Energy Communities.
This initiative is a further step in Bial’s sustainable development strategy, which includes, among its priorities, reducing carbon emissions, strengthening partnerships with organisations to improve access to healthcare, and promoting equity and inclusion.
By involving its employees in this model, Bial reinforces its corporate responsibility and the integration of sustainability principles into its business model, contributing to a positive and lasting impact on society and the environment. This agreement also reflects the company’s alignment with international regulations and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
“This partnership demonstrates the efforts we have been making to promote a healthier, more inclusive, and sustainable future. For Bial, sustainability is not just a responsible choice, but also a priority. Only in this way can we ensure a balanced future for everyone. Involving our employees in this journey is essential to turning sustainability into action, both within and outside the company,” says Miguel Portela, the company’s Chief Corporate Officer.
For José Queirós de Almeida, CEO of Greenvolt Comunidades, “it is particularly important to work with companies such as Bial and contribute to their sustainability strategy through more competitive clean energy solutions, which create operational and financial value, but also extend this benefit to the community and employees”.
Sustainability is one of the fundamental pillars of Bial’s corporate strategy, being integrated into all areas of the Group, from Research and Development (R&D) to the production and distribution of its medicines.
Greenvolt Comunidades, a company within the Greenvolt Group, specialises in collective self-consumption solutions and is a leader in this segment in Portugal, currently having more than 140 projects in operation (54 MWp) and more than 60 MWp under development.
