Meet Joana Cardoso, Senior Continuous Improvement Manager!

ACADEMIA AND MOTIVATION

My academic journey began with a Degree in Chemical Engineering from the Faculty of Engineering at Porto University, where I had exceptional teachers who not only transferred technical knowledge but also implanted in me the invaluable art of critical thinking. This paved the way for a Master's in Science within the Faculty of Pharmacy, still within the halls of Porto University. In parallel with my studies, I delved into research at the Faculty of Engineering, focusing on developing analytical methods for detecting pesticides in wines.

WHY BIAL?

Initially, I applied for BIAL for a position in the Quality Control Laboratory. However, the process took a different turn when the former Quality Director, Luís Sintra, redirected my application to the Quality Assurance and Environment office. It was in June of 2004 that my journey at BIAL began. Although this transition presented a big challenge for me, given my previous experience was predominantly laboratory-based, it turned out to be the best decision for my career. I am deeply grateful to Luís Sintra, who was not only a mentor and teacher, but also guided me from a technical and holistic perspective of the pharmaceutical industry.

WHAT’S IT LIKE TO WORK AT BIAL?

It's no secret that working at BIAL has been an experience like no other to me. I've been wearing BIAL's shirt since day one as I identify myself with the company's journey, vision, and dream. The word I would choose to define my (almost) 20 years with BIAL is commitment. Every day and with full energy!

Throughout my journey at BIAL, I've had the privilege of collaborating with truly remarkable teams. Whether in the Quality department, where the former Compliance team constantly turned the Impossible into the Possible, or in Continuous Improvement, where multidisciplinary teams challenge processes and themselves to think outside the box, break existing paradigms and dogmas, and discover new, more efficient, and agile ways of working. In essence, BIAL's team can be described as dynamic, innovative, and relentless in their pursuit of excellence.
